Soho Theatre Company presents
Shoreditch Madonna
by Rebecca Lenkiewicz, directed Sean Mathias
6 July - 6 August 2005

'Don't cry now. You'll wash away the pictures. Shh... I see the ocean. Night-time. There's things in the sea, underwater like pearls. They're way below. And in the black sky there's a line of red like a scar.'

A derelict space. Three urban cowboys. Two jaded bohemians. One woman, alone, in pain. Their lives collide and in an attempt to connect with each other, their conflicts unfold. A modern tale of love and loss set against the underground art world of London's East End.

'By turns tender and tragic, poetic, romantic and riotously ribald. Lenkiewicz has a wonderfully racy ear for the wry, the sardonic and the scatological. I laughed as much as I cried. This is a truly remarkable work.'
The Daily Mail (on The Night Season)
