Midwinter
8 - 19 March 2005

"How can there be a war without soldiers?"

A pedlar announces that the war is over; and as the soldiers
return in the fragile peace that follows, the starving people are
left to build new lives and forge new identities. Written in a spare
and lyrical language, Midwinter is a play about now, about love,
self and a world made from conflict.

Zinnie Harris’ other work includes Nightingale and Chase (Royal
Court, 2001) and Further Than The Furthest Thing (Tron Theatre/
National Theatre, 2000).

"Zinnie Harris’ Midwinter has the force of a moral fable…
Ruth Gemmell gives a thrilling performance."

Guardian

"Harris directs with flair; Ruth Gemmell as the opportunistic Maud and John Normington as the imperturbable old man match the script’s mercurial shifts beautifully."
Daily Telegraph
