when to run

'If your life isn’t like in the adverts – run; until you feel all the pain you deserve.'

Most people know when to run. Sometimes though, we can end up frozen to the spot. Unable to flee our rubbish lives, we do keep-fit and worry about getting fat or going bald. Well I did anyway (not the bald bit though). I started going running. I began to notice the same women out running too. Our paths kept crossing. What the hell was going on?

So I wrote this show. I play all the characters:

Emma, a narcissistic loft living executive adrenalin junkie:
'You left the old you behind, you dumped her. You left her on a driverless train at Mudchute DLR – crying.'

Shelley, an urban teenage athlete with her heart set on 2012:
'I don't care what they say, Paula is rad! …Any woman who can run 22 miles with porridge poo in her pants is fierce, d'ye get me?'

Celia, a lifestyle coach whose perfectly 'heppy' life is actually rather 'rotten':
'I like to time myself thinking heppy thoughts. I'm very quick. Smiling keeps me young.'

...and Julia, a bone idle dog walker who over-watches her Sopranos box set:
'Someone will end up fancying me sooner or later just because I'm there.'

These four have more in common than they think, and their lives cross over in the local park, with fatal consequences.

Take it from me; this show is a five-star, gut-busting, must-see comedy for runners and couch potatoes alike.

Come to When to Run and watch these characters possess me, like at a séance, but with better lines.

'Genius'

The Guardian

A comedy of four women runners and a man who looks a bit like Tony Soprano. Sophie flits between a neurotic executive, an urban teenage athlete, a secretly miserable life coach and a dog walker who hates exercise. Their lives collide as they pound the pavements of London – with fatal consequences.

'A stunning, electrifying show full of imagination and verve.'
