
Topher Campbell
Topher Campbell is Artistic Director of the Red Room.
Since graduating at the University of Sussex Topher has directed numerous plays including the world premier of Necklaces by Tariq Ali. Topher also directed the European premier’s of Flamingo by Bode Sowende at the Gate Theatre, Notting Hill, and Jar the Floor by Cheryl West for the West Yorkshire Playhouse, other plays include a revival of Woza Albert starring Marianne Jean -Baptiste and Nimaii: Spirit if Vrindavan the first British Asian Musical and The Odyssey at the Young Vic Theatre.
He was Associate Director at the West Yorkshire Playhouse. As Associate Director he was festival co-ordinator for an innovative new play season 7 x 7 which featured seven new plays rehearsed and performed over seven weeks. He has also directed and produced Radio Drama and is a guest director for Silver Street on the BBC Asian Network.
In 2005 he was awarded the Jerwood Directors Award. His films include The Homecoming and A Mulatto Song for Channel 4. For the BBC he was selected for the Drama Directors Training Course and has directed 17 episodes of Doctors; the Bafta winning afternoon Drama. Topher is co-founder or rukus! Federation Ltd a company dedicated to raising the profile of work by Black Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Artists.
