Soho Theatre presents
the christ of coldharbour lane
by Oladipo Agboluaje
directed by Paulette Randall
31 May - 23 June 2007

'Brixton... A great spillover of excessive dreams. Anonymous masses… All of you are dancers of the dying beat. I come with the strong arm to ignite the rhythm, to drive again your passion for life.'

A revolutionary preacher begs the crowds to 'abandon the wilful peace' that keeps them down. He tries to make them believe that things could be different. But when people pray only for a brand new car or a large KFC bucket, the citizens of Brixton need a miracle to happen…

Oladipo Agboluaje is Soho Theatre's Pearson Playwright in residence.

'Whipsmart comedy... Paulette Randall's fizzing, feisty, energetic production plays delightfully.'

The Metro****

'Hugely enjoyable satirical comedy... Jimmy Akingbola is excellent as the self-styled prophet who is certain that Brixton can be the new Jerusalem.'

The Guardian

'The multi-cultural melting pot of Brixton is evoked through cast members being master of many an accent and subtle quick change artists.'

London Theatre Guide

'...a very funny and thought-provoking piece of original theatre.'
