In the early 80s Shappi became a refugee, long before it became fashionable. Nevertheless, having left Tehran for London, Shappi and her family were still not safe. As assassins chased after them, they went into hiding and tried to leave a normal life - seeing friends, going to school, checking under the car for bombs... Shappi tells her true story in a brilliantly intelligent and funny show.
‘One of the best stand-ups on the circuit, with a strong sense of her Iranian identity but a typically British sense of humour.’
The Guardian
‘A fascinating story to tell, married to one of the warmest, most engaging performance styles I have seen.’
The Observer
