News From Nowhere and Soho Theatre present
an oak tree
by Tim Crouch, co-directed by
Tim Crouch, Karl James and a smith
7 February - 4 March 2007

An Oak Tree is the story of two men brought together by loss: a father whose daughter has been killed by a car, and the driver of that car, a provincial stage hypnotist.  The two men meet when the father volunteers for the hypnotist’s act.

Tim Crouch plays the hypnotist. The father is played by a different actor for every performance, who walks on stage having neither seen or read a word of the play. The result is a breathtaking projection: from one actor to another, from hypnotist to subject, from audience to stage.

This award-winning play comes fresh from a New York run. Guest actors to date include Frances McDormand, Roger Lloyd-Pack, Laurie Anderson, Christopher Eccleston and Mike Myers - 'a wild and exhilarating ride.' (Variety.com)

'… absolutely f***ing fantastic.'

The Observer

'Pirandello for a modern audience and better.  It’s philosophy in action, playful and seriously thought-provoking.'

The Independent on Sunday
