ULTZ

ULTZ was Production Designer for The Gods Are Not To Blame produced by Tiata Fahodzi and directed by Femi Elufowoju, jr at the Arcola Theatre last year. In the West End he designed When Harry Met Sally starring Luke Perry and Alyson Hannigan, Me And Mamie O’rourke starring French and Saunders, A Madhouse In Goa starring Vanessa Redgrave; for the RSC, 16 productions including The Twin-Rivals (Olivier Award Nomination – Best Designer), Good (London & Broadway) and The Art Of Success (RSC & Manhattan Theatre Club); for the Royal Court, 11 world premieres including this season’s The Winterling directed by Ian Rickson, Femi Elufowoju, jr’s production of Bone, Fallout (Evening Standard Theatre Awards Nomination – Best Design) and the award-winning Mojo (Royal Court, West End & Steppenwolf Theater Company, Chicago).
Other designs include: The Harder They Come (Theatre Royal Stratford East); Arturo Ui, The Ramayana (National Theatre Olivier Stage); Tanika Gupta’s adaptation of Hobson’s Choice (Evening Standard Theatre Awards Nomination – Best Design, Young Vic & National Tour); Der Ferne Klang (Opera North); As You Like It (Stockholms Stadsteater); Julius Caesar, The Cherry Orchard (Stratford, Ontario); A Walk In The Woods (Edmonton, Alberta); Twelfth Night (Ginza Saison Tokyo); for Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich: Xerxes (OpernWelt Critics’ Award – Best Design); La Clemenza Di Tito, The Rake’s Progress, Die Entfuhrung Aus Dem Serail. ULTZ directed: the musical Summer Holiday starring Darren Day (premiere at Blackpool Opera House/National Tour/London Apollo/South African Tour); Da Boyz – a hip hop version of ‘The Boys from Syracuse’ which ULTZ devised with DJ Excalibah & MC Skolla; Niraj Chag’s musical Baiju Bawra, The Taming Of The Shrew – The Women’s Version; and the British premiere of Lorca’s The Public (Theatre Royal Stratford East); The Boyfriend, What The Butler Saw (Nottingham Playhouse); Noises Off (Leicester Haymarket); Jesus Christ Superstar (in Danish at Aarhus & Cophenhagen); Don Giovanni and Cosi Fan Tutte (in Japanese at the Tokyo Globe); L’Elisir D’Amore (Tiroler Landestheater, Austria); Die Fledermaus (Bavaria); Pericles (London & Stockholms Stadsteater); A Midsummer Night’s Dream (National Arts Centre, Ottawa); Dragon (National Theatre); 4 plays by Jean Genet – The Maids and Deathwatch (RSC); The Screens (California); The Blacks (Market Theatre Johannesburg/Grahamstown Festival/Stockholms Stadsteater).
