Akintayo Akinbode

Over the last twenty years Akintayo has composed and musically directed extensively around the country with productions including Tiata Fahodzi 2005 Summer production of The Gods are not to Blame (Arcola); Anthony & Cleopatra, Fen, Much Ado About Nothing, Peer Gynt, Great Expectations, Yerma and The Taming Of The Shrew (The Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester). Others include: The Buddy Bolden Experience (Royal Exchange Studio and Edinburgh Festival); Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom (Liverpool Playhouse); Weirdstone Of Brisingamen, Lysistrata, Generations Of The Dead and The Carver Chair (Contact Theatre); You Never Can Tell and Magnetic North (West Yorkshire Playhouse); Beauty and The Beast (New Vic, Stoke); Renegades, Totterdown Tanzi, Maid Marion and Her Merry Men (Bristol Old Vic); Charlotte’s Web, Three Steps To Heaven, Blue Moon and Heart and Soul (Chester Gateway); Our Day Out, The Dispute, Storm (Generating Company) and Solomon and The Big Cat (Sheffield Crucible); Virtual Body, Flying Vets and Brooks Family Kitchen (Granada TV). Recent work includes Heelz On Wheels 06 (Fittings); Voices (Upswing); A Whistle In The Dark (Royal Exchange Theatre); Cinderella (Liverpool Everyman); Horror For Wimps (Lips Service); Maritime Mysteries (Greenwich Docklands Festival). In addition to his theatre work he has also appeared as a presenter on the children’s educational television programme Stop Look Listen, and has played in many bands including Chapter and The Verse, Distant Cousins and the almost legendary Walter And The Softies.
